Our Artwork Guidelines

File Types

We accept the following file types:

If you have any other type, kindly inform us prior to upload. Maximum file size allowed is 200MB per file. If you have a larger file kindly contact a member of staff via email or telephone. Please note the following special instructions when sending a pdf file.

All PDF files must be:

  • Converted to CMYK Colours
  • Embedded Fonts(Converted to Curves/Outlines)
  • 3mm Bleed & Crop Marks(if document bleeds)
  • Print/Press Quality - 300dpi
  • Sized to 100% Scale
  • Resolution: All images in the artwork must be at least 300dpi & saved as CMYK in order to be suitable for high quality print

Colour:

All artwork supplied must be based in CMYK mode unless a spot/pantone colour is also specified. It is recommended to use 100% black for text instead of 4 colour black. Single colour black will give a sharper impact.

Make sure that you do not send us files made in RGB mode. They may look good on screen but when these files are converted to CMYK they can alter the appearance significantly. We are do not accept any liability for any colour deviations due to this conversion.

It is advisable you do not rely on screen representation of colours. The actual print will most likely be different than what is being represented on the screen as it isn’t calibrated with the ink press. If you require a hard colour accurate proof prior to printing please specify after placing the order. This can be provided at an additional cost of £30.

File Size/Bleed:

Please ensure that the file sent to us is 100% to scale. Please note that the scaling does not include the bleed and ensure crop marks are clearly defined in all artworks supplied.

One of the most common issues faced by printers is no bleed in the supplied artwork. Look at the image below (Fig. 1.) showing best practice to design a leaflet. We recommend at least 3mm bleed around all edges. It is suggested to have a safe zone of 5mm around the edge of your finished page size for text images. This will ensure that the text/image is not cut off and there is no movement in the sheets while cutting. We have also made a table (table 1.) of most common sizes showing actual actual size of the leaflet & size including bleed.

Bleed areas can be set in design software such as Adobe indesign & illustrator in the document setup but remember to include this bleed area when saving your pdf file.
